ProgramsThe main goal of each book is to inspire children to explore the natural world. Each book also has an important life lesson or message. Background music, aromatherapy (smells from nature), various props, and a lively discussion keep children involved and entertained during this educational experience. All programs are tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of the audience and its organizers. Shayla the Forest Fairy and the Perfect Day: (relates best to younger elementary students) It’s spring in the forest and Shayla the forest fairy wakes up to a warm, sunny day. We see the beauty and magic of the forest through her eyes as she flies through the forest in search of her friend, Ogilvie the owl. Celebrate the perfect day with Shayla and her friends as they enjoy the wonder of the natural world. The discussion afterwards revolves around interesting facts about nature, how children are better than adults at noticing the world around them, and how this can help you find something special in every day. Shayla and the Mermaid of the Lake: (relates well to all elementary school students) Shayla the forest fairy is enjoying the long summer days with her friends. But she discovers the mermaid of the lake, Fiona, is miserable. The mermaid feels like a failure at her job, but with Shayla’s help, Fiona learns that while your work is important, true success in life is caring for others. Enjoy a special summer day of friendship with Shayla and Fiona. The discussion afterwards revolves around the balance found in nature, how true success and happiness is finding a balance between your responsibilities and your friends, and why caring for others is the true meaning of success. Shayla and the Dark Forest Dragon: (relates well to all elementary school students) Sometimes change is difficult. Shayla is enjoying the warm summer days with her friends and is sad to see the season changing. With help from Ogilvie the owl and an adventure with her new friend, Kegan the dragon, Shayla realizes each season is special. As she opens her heart to change, discover the wonder of autumn with Shayla and her friends. The discussion afterwards revolves around interesting facts about nature, why change can be difficult, and how to deal with change. The Forest Fairy and the Phoenix: (relates best to older elementary school students) After a winter storm, Shayla the forest fairy finds her home has been transformed into a lovely world of ice and snow. She meets a magical bird, the Phoenix, and the fairy discovers they share a special bond as protectors of the forest. Sadly, the Phoenix has to leave the forest forever. Learn how Shayla finds comfort in her connection with nature and helping others. The discussion afterwards revolves around the importance of protecting the natural world, why loss is part of life, and how nature and helping others can help you deal with loss. At the end of each presentation, children will receive a bookmark and a paper describing how they can create their own nature friends like those found throughout the books.
